6 Month Checkup

Just wrapped up the 6 month checkup with Henry. He is doing great, as expected. 4 shots were no fun though.

Henry is now 18 lbs and just over 27 inches tall.

Check ups

We survived our visit to the pediatrician yesterday - Henry's 2 month check up and Mary's 4 yr check up - with 9 shots in total between the two of them! Mary received 4 boosters and Henry received his first dose of 5 diiferent immunizations. Mary took it like a pro, just saying "ouch" with each shot and Henry screamed and his bottom lip quivered. They both seem to be feeling much better today. The Dr. was pleased with their growth. Henry weighs 12 lbs 15 oz and is 24 1/4 inches. Mary weighs 33 lbs and is 39 1/2 inches tall.

Update from the Dr.

Wrapping up our 1 month checkup. Henry is doing great. Here's the statistics --

10lbs 11oz (75th percentile)
22 3/4 tall (85th percentile)

Dr says all looks good and looks forward to seeing us at the 2 month checkup (where we'll have to get another shot).

I don't like shots!!!

Sleep, Sleep, and more sleep.....

All is going well with Henry these days, and Mary is back in school as of yesterday.

Henry is still quite the sleeper! We went in for our 1 week checkup last week and the Dr. said all was well, and Henry had gained just over an ounce, up to 8lbs 7 1/2 oz. He is waking up 2-3 times a night, which is completely manageable, and nice that it's not more often. Mary still gives him kisses and hugs whenever she can.

I am working from home this week, making sure that we get the new routines down to get Mary to school, etc. while keeping a watchful eye on Henry.

Keep an eye on this site for updates, pictures, etc.

Could this have been the last Doctor visit?

We went in for our last ultrasound and our weekly Dr checkup this afternoon. All is well and the baby is measuring ~9 lbs 5oz. The baby continues to be very active, and we even saw it moving during the ultrasound. We got some great glimpses of the face, nose, ears, and hands. Still no answer on the gender-we've waited this long so what's another week or so!

Our Dr is on call on Friday and encouraged us to call in the morning if Amy is having any contractions. The schedule at Piedmont is full for planned c-sections so we're hoping that Amy will show enough signs that we'll be able to go in and have the baby delivered. They won't turn us away if there are some contractions and our Dr will be there to deliver. Otherwise we wait for real labor to start (and have another Dr in the practice deliver) or until the 31st for a planned c-section with our Dr. Based on the baby's position - head is down but still very high-our Dr isn't convinced that Amy will even go into labor before the 31st! So tomorrow we're off to Scalinis a local Italian restaurant that promises to send full term pregnant women into labor with a serving of their eggplant parmesan. Wish us luck!

If you have any other suggestions feel free to let us know by posting a comment via the link below. More updates to come soon.

Quotes from the Dr today

"Buy a shirt that says I am not having twins"
"You are measuring 42 weeks"
"Maybe your body will say 'I can't take it anymore'"
"I am not delivering this baby early, unless we have a reason to"
"Don't blame me, it's your genes that are producing a big baby"
"It's a good thing you're having a cesarean, there is no way we would be able to deliver this baby"

So we wait.......we have one last ultrasound scheduled for next week, so we'll provide additional updates when needed.

No News is Good News......

Back to the Dr. for the weekly checkup again today. All is well. Baby is still head down and still moving all the time. Dr is happy with everything she can see/feel/hear, so the wait continues.

In Sickness and In Health......

Amy started feeling something coming on last week. We went to the Dr. Friday to get a checkup. Dr. determined that there was something going on and gave a prescription for antibiotics. After chills, coughing, stuffiness, and other symptoms, we held out until Sunday when Amy woke up with a painful earache. After checking with multiple Dr's and the pharmacist, Amy is now on a regimen of twice-a-day antibiotics. We'll keep you informed on the status.

Back from the Dr

All is well, but the Dr is not moving from the scheduled delivery date of 12/31. We don't want deliver a baby with undeveloped lungs either, so we wait. If Amy goes into labor before then, the Dr is happy to deliver, but if not, we are waiting until at least 38 weeks before the Dr will even consider delivering the baby. We are at 35 weeks today, so we have about 3-5 weeks left before we'll be announcing the birth of our new baby!!

Update

Went for another ultrasound today. All is well. Baby is head down, and BIG. Based on measurements, the baby weighs 8 lbs. 2 oz. Mary weighed 8 lbs. 4 oz. and she was born 2 weeks late. Dr says that babies typically gain 1/2 lb a week during these last weeks.

We head back to our main Dr tomorrow to interpret the results of todays ultrasound and to determine if we will be moving the delivery date up from 12/31.

More to come when we have an update!
